Commentary
Digital art has yet to find its voice as new medium. Communication and beauty of style have been the earmark of artists. We as Digital practitioners have to address this problem. Face it fair and square, front and center. The newness of the medium won't hold up forever. It would be a privilege to help define a more truly artistic level for Digital Art, a kind of groundwork for the future! So that this burgeoning art form might reach the acceptance of the world art community, by making undeniably unique and great art. Because visual art, in general, is in a weak position vis a vis the rest of the creative community, it needs to become truly "terrific" in order to make a new mark. While everyone is weary of amateurish art IN ANY MEDIUM, the digital community is not making points by congratulating itself on just anything at all. If the digital community wants to become a major player in visual art now is the time. We have a chance to contribute in a major way to this. And the practitioners (artists, video and animation, web art and interactive installations) need challenges. The public needs a point of direct contact with greatness which visual art used to provide and boast of. Perhaps it can provide this again. The opportunity to make this mark is right now. Ey?
